The CSR Club of Farook Institute of Management Studies (FIMS) organized an enriching one-day Organisation Study at Green Worms Material Recovery Facility (MRF), Thamarassery, on Saturday, 17th May 2025. The visit was designed to help MBA students gain firsthand exposure to the functioning of a socially driven waste management organization and to understand the dynamics of sustainable business practices. The event aimed at integrating academic learning with real-world applications, aligning perfectly with the club’s vision of nurturing responsible business leaders.
Green Worms, known for its commitment to turning waste into value, provided a remarkable learning environment. Upon arrival, the students were given a brief orientation about the mission and operational model of the organization. The team at Green Worms explained how their enterprise collects, sorts, and recycles various forms of waste while generating employment opportunities for women from marginalized communities. The students witnessed the meticulous segregation process and observed how value is created from materials that are typically discarded.
Throughout the visit, the participants engaged in discussions with the operations team and gained insights into the supply chain, logistics, and impact assessment of the organization. They learned about the importance of social entrepreneurship and how business can be a force for environmental and community transformation. The experience also highlighted the crucial role of innovation, team coordination, and efficient resource management in sustaining such impactful initiatives.
The Organisation Study concluded with an interactive session where students shared their reflections and posed questions to the Green Worms team. This field visit not only enhanced the participants’ understanding of organizational structure and functions but also inspired them to think beyond conventional corporate models.
